Festivals have great importance in our life. Festivals give our life an experience of fun and enjoyment. India is a country of diversities. Many festivals are celebrated here throughout the year. Some of these festivals are religious, such as Deepawali, Holi, Janmashtami, Raksha Bandhan, Dussehra, Eid, Bakrid and Christmas etc. Some festivals are celebrated on the basis of the seasons, such as Vasant Panchami, Pongal, Baisakhi and Lohri etc. Apart from these, some festivals are celebrated by all the people of the entire nation, which are known as the ‘National Festivals’. National festivals celebrated in India are three- Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.

Independence Day: ‘Independence Day’ of India is celebrated on the fifteenth of August. 15th August is a national holiday in India. It is celebrated to commemorate its independence from British rule in 1947.
